Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood. It does so by relaxing blood vessels. It also controls chest pain when taken on a regular basis. It is sometimes prescribed in combination with other medications.<\/p>\n

Amlodipine is manufactured in tablet form. The usual dose is once per day. Take as prescribed, no more, no less frequently. The physician will begin with a low dose and increase the strength gradually. Although this drug controls high blood pressure, it is not a cure.<\/p>\n

Amlodipine is sometimes prescribed to treat other conditions. List all other prescription or non-prescription drugs that you take. Include herbal remedies and vitamins as well. Other factors your physician should be aware of before prescribing Amlodipine:<\/p>\n

\u2022 If you have a history of heart failure
\u2022 If you have a history of liver disease
\u2022 If you are pregnant
\u2022 If you are breast-feeding<\/p>\n

If you get pregnant while using Amlodipine, contact the doctor. Do not stop taking this or any other medication abruptly without consulting your physician because it can be dangerous.<\/p>\n

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is near the time for the next tablet, skip the one you missed. Never take a double dose to compensate for one you missed taking.<\/p>\n

You may notice some side effects with this medication. Notify the physician if they become severe or long lasting:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Swelling of the extremities
\u2022 Stomach pain
\u2022 Dizziness
\u2022 Drowsiness
\u2022 Fatigue
\u2022 Headaches
\u2022 Flushed feeling<\/p>\n

If you faint, have an irregular heartbeat or severe chest pain, contact your physician or seek emergency care immediately.<\/p>\n

Store Amlodipine in a tightly closed container at room temperature. Keep out of the reach of children. Keep away from excessive moisture or heat. Your pharmacist can advise you about how to dispose of unused or outdated medications.<\/p>\n
