On occasion, diuretics may cause some sexual dysfunction in men, so take <br \/>that into consideration when speaking with your doctor.<\/p>\n<p>Medication Side Effects<\/p>\n<p>Another common high blood pressure medication is a beta-blocker. This medication can also <br \/>reduce the chance of stroke and heart attacks, while also protecting the heart in those who already suffer from coronary artery disease. As with the thiazide diuretic, a beta-blocker is also <br \/>inexpensive and you can also take it just one time a day. Something to be aware of with the <br \/>beta-blockers is that they may cause some sleep difficulties in some patients, and perhaps even <br \/>depression, so watch for this. As with the diuretic, the beta-blocker may also cause some sexual <br \/>dysfunction in men.<\/p>\n<p>The next most common high blood pressure medication is what is called an ACE inhibitor. This <br \/>stands for angiotensin-converting enzyme. This medication helps to support and protect the <br \/>kidneys as well as the ability to help protect the heart muscle after a heart attack or for those who suffer from congestive heart failure. Your doctor will carefully assess your condition before <br \/>prescribing an ACE inhibitor, as they can cause more decline in some kidney functions.
