The last thing that should concern you are the various minerals that can harm your fish. Huh? Yes. The minerals that can harm your fish are IN your pond. These minerals are in the form of algae and bacteria that are naturally occurring inside your ponds ecosystem. They are naturally occurring but, by doing one innocent thing YOU can make them become a killer of your fish. What is that ONE innocent thing you may ask?<\/p>\n<p>By feeding them too early in the spring&#8230;!<\/p>\n<p>Yes, it&#8217;s true. By feeding your koi too early in the spring you can open them up to all kinds of infection and disease. How you may ask? You must remember that your fish are cold-blooded animals and henceforth do not function well in temperatures below 58 degrees. Do you know what else doesn&#8217;t function in temps below 58 degrees? That&#8217;s right, the beneficial bacteria that your fish need to survive.<\/p>\n<p>When you feed your fish too early in the spring, all the protein that they eat is redeposited into the pond. This waste in turn, becomes HARMFUL bacteria because the water temp is below 58 degrees. The beneficial bacteria need temps of 58 degrees and above to function properly.
