Foods and Nutrients That Are Essential to Your Muscles

Protein- Protein is the main ingredient in a muscle building diet; the body breaks the protein down into amino acids, which is the main nutrient for building and repairing muscles. Foods that are rich in protein are fish, red meats, egg whites and dairy products. Protein shakes are a body builder’s main source for getting extra protein throughout the day. The shakes are excellent for a bedtime snack. At night it is important to focus more on protein and vegetables rather than carbohydrates, as you will be less active by night.

Carbohydrates- Glucose is the body and minds main energy source. Carbohydrates eventually turn into glucose to provide you with that energy that is needed throughout the day. Foods with carbohydrates that produce a steady form of energy and that are appetite filling are, whole wheat bread, brown rice and oatmeal. Legumes- All beans are an excellent source of protein and fiber. Fiber is what keeps your blood sugar level throughout the day to keep your energy level even. Beans can be eaten in large amounts, as with Brussels sprouts because neither will provide your body with fat cells to store.

Eggs- Eggs are another food that is very high in protein as well as Omega3. To avoid extra fat being consumed into your body, try just eating the egg white. Though it will be hard to avoid, try to keep from adding mayonnaise and excessive amounts of salt. A great way to eat egg whites without the bland taste is in a salad. Again with your salad, if you are adding a dressing try a low fat dressing or only add small portions, to maintain your fat consumption.
