I was considering buying a reverse osmosis system awhile ago because I thought it was the best type of system for removing contaminants from water, but I was surprised to learn that was not the case. I learned that the RO system was using a membrane with predetermined holes and that unfiltered water is forced through the membrane. In theory only the water molecules pass through the membrane leaving all the contaminants on the other side.
What is interesting is that there some contaminates and organisms that can pass through the filter into the clean water. This makes the filter not an effective way to purify water. There is also the remaining water that has most of the contaminants. This water is simply flushed back down the drain into the sewer system with a higher concentration of contaminates.
I did not like the fact that these systems have very low flow rates and usually require a big tank for the clean water to give the illusion that the flow rates are somewhat normal. These systems take up a large portion of space under a sink too. There is also a significant amount of money that is required to start one of these systems.
There are many different kinds of systems on the market and many of them remove the minerals that occur in water naturally. They are what give water its taste and are good for the body. It did not take me long to figure out that I definitely want these in my water that I am going to drink each day.
I was able to find a company that can purify water and still keep those natural minerals in the water for me. They are an established company and have more than one model. They also have a shower version that takes about 5 minutes to install and you can watch a video if you are a little unsure about how to do it.
