Vitamins That Boost Your Metabolism – Two Very Important Ones

When we follow a weight loss program we want to make use of all that is available to us to boost our metabolism such as proper foods and exercise to help speed our weight loss effort. Did you know that there are also vitamins that boost your metabolism? If you did not, then please add this to your list of ways to speed-up your metabolism.

Vitamins and minerals may be something that you have not considered as an aide in your weight loss program. It is often thought that a balanced diet is enough to meet our nutritional concerns. In many cases it does, but there are vitamins that boost your metabolism which you may not be aware of and they can be easily incorporated into your weight loss regime.

One of the reasons that we need to lose weight in the first place is because we have filled our body with either too many foods that have been highly processed or too many high fat foods. These foods are difficult for the body to metabolize because of the additives they contain and they are considered foreign or toxic to our body. Our ability to burn off the excess fat is slowed because of the toxic overload. This slow metabolism not only can cause weight gain but can make losing the excess weight more of a chore than it really is. So lets take a look at a couple of vitamins that can help boost metabolism simply because they help the body eliminate excess toxins.

Two Very Important Vitamins that Boost Metabolism:

Vitamin C – Vitamin C helps the body rid itself of excess toxins, and also strengthens the immune system. When the body is not being over burdened of trying to eliminate toxins, then it can direct its energy to burning fat, hence boosting our metabolism. Vitamin C is not stored in the body and only lasts for about one hour in our system after taking it. One of the best ways to get the most effectiveness of Vitamin C is to take smaller amounts several times through out the day. Lemons or limes are an excellent source of Vitamin C. A fresh squeezed wedge of lemon or lime into your water or tea will add flavor and help to boost to your metabolism.

B Vitamins – The B Vitamins include thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), cyanocobalamin (B12), folic acid, and biotin. The B Vitamins help the body in breaking down carbohydrates into glucose — providing energy to the body. Additionally, they aid in the breaking down of proteins and fats which are essential for the proper functioning of our nervous system which helps our body to relieve stress. Stress can cause the body to produce toxins which will slow down the metabolism as explained earlier. The B vitamins help the body’s nervous system to handle any stress overloads. Some foods that are high in the B vitamins are turkey, tuna, chili peppers, lentils, potatoes, bananas, meats, salmon, tuna, dairy products, eggs, whole oats, barley, avocado, raw nuts, and molasses.

No matter how you plan out your weight loss program, always eat a wide variety of foods so that you are sure to get the most nutrition from all available sources. Choose a health care professional of your choice that will help to guide you on your weight loss journey. Be sure to ask him/her about these vitamins that boost metabolism so that you can include them in your diet plan regimen.
