Why Are Essential Omega-3 Oils Missing in Our Diets?

Scientists are now discovering a vital difference between the sources of Omega 3’s and Omega 6’s. It has to do with “Springtime food,” which produces Omega 3’s and “Fall food,” which produces Omega 6’s.

Springtime food gets your body ready for the work ahead – promoting cell regeneration, good circulation and increased metabolism – everything an animal needs as it gets ready for increased activity, such as the mating season.

What is “Springtime food?” Green plants.

“Fall food” puts a body into hibernation mode. It promotes weight gain to get the body through the long winter months when less food is available and animals engage in less activity.

Fall food is the harvest – the grains that appear and ripen as the green plants mature.

As our meat supply has shifted from beef, pork, and chicken grown on family farms to animals “mass-produced” in “factory farms,” their diet has changed. They no longer eat springtime food, but are subjected to fall food all year. Thus, the meat and dairy products they provide for your family contains only Omega 6’s.

Grass fed beef is rich in Omega 3’s, as is the meat from all other animals fed their natural grass diet.

Milk cows on pasture produce milk rich in Omega 3’s – chickens who eat grass (and grass-fed bugs) produce both meat and eggs rich in Omega 3’s.

Wild-caught fish are rich in Omega 3’s because they eat green plants!

What can you do to add Omega 3’s to your diet?

Eating fish is a good start, but you should also add leafy greens, potatoes, and other legumes to your regular diet. And then, if you can find it, eat grass-fed beef, chicken, and pork, and buy dairy products that come from cows and chickens raised on grass rather than grain.

Taking a fish-oil Omega-3 supplement is recommended when these diet changes are not possible.
